This Policy is incorporated into the End User License Agreement & Terms of Service that every player accepts in-game.
This Privacy Policy describes how The California Media Company ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the online game Wardenfall, including its websites and services (the "Game"). It is incorporated by reference into the Wardenfall End User License Agreement & Terms of Service (the "Player Agreement"). By using the Game you agree to this Policy.
Account information: your username, email address, and password (stored only as a cryptographic hash — we cannot read it). Optionally, a referral code if you use one.
Security signals: the IP address captured when you register (used for anti-abuse and anti-cheat, such as detecting duplicate accounts), and standard server logs.
Gameplay data: everything generated by playing — your empire, heroes, battles, trades, quests, scores, activity logs, and progress.
Communications: messages and chat you send in the Game (including sieges and guild channels) are stored on our servers, and email you send us.
Cookies: a single first-party session cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Usage analytics: first-party, self-hosted usage measurements (such as pages visited within the Game) used only to operate and improve the Game.
We use the information above to: operate, maintain, and improve the Game; create and secure your account; verify your email and reset passwords; run game systems (battles, economy, rankings, messages); moderate conduct and enforce the Player Agreement; detect and prevent cheating, fraud, and abuse; communicate with you about the Game (verification, security, and service announcements); and comply with legal obligations.
WE DO NOT SELL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing.
We share information only with: service providers who host and operate the Game on our behalf (for example, cloud hosting, database, and email-delivery providers), bound to use it only to provide those services; other players, to the limited extent inherent in play (your username, empire name, scores, and in-game messages are visible in-game); law enforcement or others where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of The California Media Company, the Game, or its players; and a successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (this Policy would continue to apply).
We keep your information for as long as your account exists and as needed to run the Game. If you abdicate (delete) your account, or ask us to delete it, we remove or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period — except records we must retain for security, anti-abuse, audit, legal, or dispute-resolution purposes (kept only as long as needed for those purposes).
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to a game service: passwords are stored hashed, transport is encrypted (HTTPS), access to production data is restricted, and moderation tooling is audit-logged. No online service is perfectly secure — you use the Game at your own risk, and you are responsible for keeping your password confidential.
The Game is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it. Players under 18 require a parent or guardian's consent under the Player Agreement.
You may: access and update your account information in-game; delete your account (abdication) in-game or by contacting us; and opt out of non-essential email. Where your local law grants you rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information (for example, the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may exercise them by contacting us — we will verify your request and respond as the law requires, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes requiring a right to limit.
Because we do not track players across third-party websites or services, the Game does not respond differently to browser "Do Not Track" signals — there is no cross-site tracking to disable.
The Game is operated from the United States and your information is processed and stored there. If you play from outside the U.S., you consent to the transfer of your information to the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated Policy here with a new "Last updated" date, and for material changes we will provide notice in-game. Your continued use of the Game after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance.
Privacy questions and requests may be sent to The California Media Company through the in-game Messages system (write to the Warden) or through the official Wardenfall community channels linked in-game.
